The key to successful training is to make training engaging, relevant, and interactive. Employees need to feel that their company is investing in their growth and development. Workers across the country also want to understand how training will benefit them personally. By using a combination of hands-on learning, virtual simulations, and gamification, we can design a manufacturing training program that not only teaches employees the necessary skills, but also includes them in the design and development process. They suddenly become excited to come to work and want to be a part of a winning team.
But what's holding you back from implementing this solution?
Some companies may worry about the cost or the time commitment required for training. But the truth is, the cost of turnover and disengagement is far greater. By investing in your employees and giving them the tools they need to succeed, you'll see a significant return on investment in the form of increased productivity, higher quality work, and greater employee satisfaction.

An automotive parts manufacturer was having significant quality issues in one of their sub-assembly lines. Parts were missing, sloppy workmanship and slow production. The lines also suffered from high turnover. After investigating, we found that the employees were not properly trained and as a result, their “neighbor” on the line was showing them what to do, who was also not properly trained. After documenting the mistakes and errors at each sub-assembly position, we created a computer-based training program that outlined in detail the steps of the assembly process, created checklists and gave employees clear examples of in-spec and out of spec assemblies. Quality issues dropped to near zero and employee retention improved by 160%.
A large multi-facility manufacturer was struggling with high inventory, slow changeovers and a general lack of coordination at the various manufacturing sites. After assessing the various facilities and determining the skill and knowledge of the management teams, we created a manufacturing simulation that got the supervisors and line workers working together to improve the processes of the simulation. During the exercise, we taught various aspects of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and Leadership skills. Cost savings in the first 12 months for 12 manufacturing facilities exceeded $32 million.
A large manufacturing company was struggling with keeping employees up to speed on new equipment, processes and techniques. Their claim was they didn’t have time to train. We countered that based on all of the scrap and rework they had; they didn't have time to not train. We assembled a project team to document all the steps of the most critical manufacturing processes – and came to agreement on the “one best way”. Once that was determined, we then photographed, and videotaped all the steps and turned that into eLearning modules. After some initial resistance, employees engaged in the new process and brought many new ideas and improvements to their line.
New leaders in a manufacturing facility sometimes have a difficult time assimilating with the existent staff or other new managers. At inLearning, we can facilitate their onboarding process by using various instruments and assessments and then create a team profile which allows all members to understand how to work with each other in an efficient and professional manner.
Manufacturing facilities are in a state of constant flux; new equipment, new procedures, new raw material, new customers... all requiring changes to the way in how things are done. Without a coordinated training process, employees are left to their own devices to learn through trial and error. Not efficient, frustrating for the employee and often not a safe approach. Our train-the-trainer program can get your training methods up and running with the latest techniques and your trainers will have the confidence of using the latest facilitation skills.
